How Are Used Containers Graded/Rated?

There's a standardized grading system so that customers know exactly what condition a container is in. Here's the most common grades:

  • One Trip / New - The newest containers you can purchase. They've been shipped overseas only one time, and are often referred to as new units.
  • Cargo Worthy - These have been inspected by a CSC Marine surveyor, and approved for international shipping. They have an active CSC plate and are fully wind and waterproof.
  • WWT / Wind and Water Tight - These do not have an active CSC plate for shipping, but they potentially could be approved for shipping. They are wind and water tight and are great for storing a variety of items. They are the most common types of containers rented and sold. They have some minor rust and dents, but they do not affect the structure or integrity of the container.
  • As Is - not windproof and waterproof. These typically have lots of rust and dents, but they can be refurbished.
